PRODUCT REVIEW: Raw Revolution

Hi guys! I thought I’d do another product review since it’s been a while. I should probably do these more often because at this point I’ve lost track of how many bars I’ve tried. A lot of people ask me what the best protein / energy bars are, what the best protein powders are, etc.

I saw these bars by Raw Revolution at my Noah’s Natural Foods and got both the chunky peanut butter chocolate and the double chocolate brownie. I do want to try the coconut delight because I love coconut but they didn’t have it in store. These serve as a great pre-workout snack because it’s higher in natural sugars than say a typical protein bar or some other energy bars that have a higher fat content.

Anyway, onto the actual review:

TEXT & TEXTURE: One thing that immediately stood out about both of them is that you can really taste the dates so it’s on the sweeter side. If you don’t like dates and/or prefer something more nutty like Larabar or Raw-more Superfood Paleo Bar then you might feel indifferent to these. I personally have a palette that prefers fats and creamy things over sweet, BUT these weren’t so sweet that I had to slow down :P Score: 7/10

NUTRITIONAL VALUE: Raw Revolution has committed to using organic ingredients and they include sprouted foods in each bar so you know you’re getting high-quality ingredients to feed your body. I’m a huge fan of sprouted ingredients because doing so literally multiplies the nutritional potency by up to 15 times! It also makes the original seed, bean, nut, or grain much easier to digest because it has many more enzymes. That makes this bar not only perfect for vegans but for anybody since there are too many people living with gastrointestinal discomfort.

Here’s a closer look at the ingredients and nutritional facts:

SUSTAINABILITY: It’s a fact that animal agriculture is one of the highest contributors to CO2 and pollution. This is one of the first things I learned years ago in my sustainability class, so it goes without saying that Raw Revolution’s commitment to only using organic ingredients results in a better environment for all of us. Not only that, they uses less packaging for their bars than most, in addition to less space during their transportation.  Score: 9/10

PRICE: For $2.49 per bar (if my memory serves me right), these are the average price. For its nutritional punch, it is well worth it! Score: 10/10

I haven’t seen these bars anywhere except at Noah’s Natural Foods, so if you live in the GTA (or the 6ix, a la Drake) I highly recommend you pick one up, and let me know what you think.

P.S. They came out with the Raw Rev Glo line which has slightly more protein and added omega-3 which I’m going to try if I can find them.

P.P.S. I know I don’t have a pic showing you guys the actual texture. It’s dark and you can see the dates and nuts. I’ll update this with a couple pics of what it looks like soon! Excuse my hunger :P
